WOOHOUSE CUP (Division 1) (Leeds "A") The league table says it all: A memorable Woodhouse season. Hull & East Riding, Sheffield (South Riding) and York (North Riding) fought it out at the top. Congratulations to Hull on winning it ahead of two very strong outfits. The rest of us stuck in the West Riding with ten different teams who have hated each other since birth were batting to avoid relegation. We stayed up on game difference after a very tough season. IM Gavin Wall, FM Tim Wall (no relation), WFM Liza Kisteneva and FM Pete Gayson travelled long distances to help keep us up. Pete also won the "Silver Knight" Trophy as top scorer in the team. Put all those titles together and we would still have been relegated wiithout the wily organising skills of FM Rupert Jones, the mug we've found to take all the stress. Thanks to all from the membership. We love it.
SILVER ROOK (Division 3)
(Leeds "B") Back in the real world, the league table says it all: Doncaster "A" were always going to run away with it, but we figured we could nab second place for promotion. New kids on the block, Ilkley Chess Centre B ("Knights") had other ideas. We beat them in our match, but slipped up on other occasions. We have lots of new members and some big improvers. Next season for certain. |
